Merlot was the original basis for the journey that has led to Sleeping Dog Wines. Sideways exhortations be dipped, the grape produces some of the most elegant and voluptuous wines that are to be had. Larry harvests from a select location within Buoy Vineyards, chosen for the robust, jammy flavors characteristic of his Merlot. Bob manages them to enhance the grape characteristics for Sleeping Dog Wines. Small amounts of Malbec and other varieties, depending on the vintage, are introduced to the profile. Aging and blending take place in stainless tanks, with oak staves (French, American, and/or Hungarian) judicously added to provide their own influence and complexity to the wine while maintaining the fruit flavors.

      Merlot co-fermented with 3% Malbec; approximately 9% Syrah added after fermentation. Deep purple color with red and dark berry, anise, and mint aromas. Undertones of vanilla, with blackberry and butter in the mouth.
