Sauvignon Blanc

While the diversity of red varietals produced at Sleeping Dog Wines suggests some lack of self control on the part of the winemaker, Larry sticks to Sauvignon Blanc for our whites. Although a bit more “independent” in its ways–Joyce calls it the “cursed grape” –Larry is partial to this varietal and willing to put up with it’s temperament.

Grapes are sourced from Buoy Vineyards. Over the years, we’ve identified a block of grapes that’s a little more shaded than other parts of the vineyard, which seems to benefit the variety by reducing the overall heat load on the vines. Since we limit ourselves to Sauvignon Blanc, Sleeping Dog Wines produces both a dry (some years, “off-dry”) as well as a late harvest edition. Alpha vintner has been known to add small amounts of Chardonnay or Viognier to a batch if he decides it could be beneficial (or just feels like experimenting).
